I was invited by Dr. Naeema Hann to deliver this webinar to the post-graduate students on Leeds Beckett University's online English Language Teaching MA course.
The module is 'Methodology in Context', and the webinar deals with the impact English language has had on Indonesia, especially within the newly emerging middle-class. The session deals with the Indonesian government's view on English language as a 'hegemony'. During the session, changes to the national curriculum and local syllabuses are discussed to make English more relevant to the local context.
The webinar has been edited by Leeds Beckett University, and some of my narration is lost. I hope the session is still clear.

Whilst researching for this webinar, I came across some research Santhi Hawanti BA, MA. She concludes that many teachers are unprepared or qualified to teach English at primary level and the government's policies are partly to blame.
