Notes from every training session

I want to remember new words and phrases. How should I make notes?

First, you can read about it by clicking here. The British Council offer excellent advice. or read my advice to teachers about teaching vocabulary by clicking here.

In class, you should always have a notebook and a pencil. Organise the vocabulary any way you want, but it's better to follow these simple rules:

-
Write down the word, the meaning, the part of speech (adjective, noun, verb, adverb, preposition etc.) and write a sentence using the word in context. Research says adding new knowledge to old knowledge helps you learn more quickly;
-
Make a nice table (see examples below)
-
Organise the words into topics. For example, all new words connected to the environment (picture 1);
-
It isn't always necessary to organise your words, you can write them randomly, if you want (picture 2);
-
Sometimes students prefer to organise words with a connection of grammar or vocabulary, not meaning or topic (picture 3);
-
Or you can be creative and make a mind map (picture 4)

You can also make notes about how to pronounce the word. This pronunciation table has symbols for every sound in standard English. So you write the following words with symbols:
Thought = θÉ”:t
Knight = naɪt
Boy = bɔɪ
Women = wɪmɪn

You can usually find these symbols in dictionaries. Listen to the sounds by clicking here.
